American Well® Brings Consumer Telehealth Service to Massachusetts

Mobile video doctor visits put healthcare in the palm of your hand

BOSTON, Dec. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Massachusetts-based telehealth leader American Well today announced the launch of its direct to consumer service in Massachusetts.  The service offers a new level of healthcare convenience and affordability for Massachusetts residents, who can now see a doctor without an appointment anytime 24x7x365, using a live video connection over their mobile device or via the web.

"Massachusetts is a leader in healthcare coverage," said Governor Deval Patrick at today's New England-Israel Business Council meeting. "We need better, less costly ways to care for patients, especially in rural and underserved areas."

Telehealth has been shown to reduce the cost of urgent care, often replacing emergency room visits.  In addition, video doctor visits can help consumers avoid a long wait for an appointment or overcome difficult travel to a doctor's office.  Online doctor visits at American Well cost just $49, compared with a statewide average of $85 for in-office urgent care visits, according to the Healthcare Blue Book.  And at launch, the company is making the service even more attractive to Massachusetts residents.

"American Well is delighted to finally offer our full telehealth service in our home state of Massachusetts," said Ido Schoenberg, MD, CEO of American Well. "And to celebrate this introduction, we are announcing today that we will honor a $20 co-pay for anyone from Massachusetts, regardless of their insurance status, on their first visit.  This introductory offer is available for a limited time.  We invite everyone here at home to experience the convenience, speed and savings of getting care online."

To access the $20 first time visit co-pay offer, consumers can download the American Well app from the Apple App store or Google play or visit www.americanwell.com and use coupon code "MA" when prompted.
